Company culture isn’t just limited to a nice work environment and the occasional catered lunch on Fridays; it’s so much more than that. In fact, company culture can be one of the biggest factors that affect how successful or unsuccessful your business is going to be in India. That’s because company culture goes hand in hand with workplace morale, employee engagement and retention, productivity, and more! All of these elements play an integral role in ensuring your company’s success, so you can’t afford to ignore them!

1) The Mentality of the Senior Management

In the Indian context, it is a common perception that senior management should be an extension of the family. In other words, they are expected to care for their employees and provide them with all the help they need to grow professionally. As a result, it may not be easy to find someone who is willing to take up a managerial position at a company if he/she does not feel comfortable with this philosophy. This can have adverse effects on company culture because employees might not feel valued or respected by their managers. 

2) The Way Employees Communicate

A company’s communication is one of the main factors that can affect its culture. In India, communication is typically done through Hindi or English. The general rule of thumb is that managers should speak English and employees should speak Hindi. Hindi may be easier to learn but it’s also more difficult to master than English because there are some tricky grammatical rules. As a result, Indians who don’t speak Hindi well often don’t feel confident enough to contribute ideas or ask questions at meetings which limits their contribution to an organization.

3) Orientation Program For New Employees

There are many ways to make an Orientation program for new employees. One way is to start off by asking the new employee what their interests are and then giving them a tour of the company. For example, if they said they like to watch movies, you can show them the movie library that you have or give them a tour of where all your movies are filmed.

4) Vacations Are Generally Smaller Than Abroad

Indian employees generally get fewer vacation days than their counterparts abroad. Indian managers are often reluctant to take long vacations because they feel they will lose control of the company and their employees during their absence. In addition, it can be difficult for an employee to ask for a vacation day without being seen as lazy or not dedicated to the job.

5) Short Working Hours

In the past, employees had to work for 8 hours a day, with no breaks. Today, there are many companies that offer flexible work hours and shorter working days of 6-8 hours. This not only helps employees maintain their own lifestyle but also ensures that they don’t have to put in too much overtime.
